VNIRO held a branch seminar of scientific observers and inspectors of CCAMLR

From August 16 to 20, 2021, the sixth industry seminar "Training of international and national scientific observers and inspectors to work in the CCAMLR Convention area" was held at the Atlantic Branch of VNIRO.

The seminar was attended by 29 specialists from VNIRO and its branches, as well as a number of fishing organizations.

Vasily Sokolov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, addressed the participants of the seminar with an introductory speech. The seminar was attended by Vladimir Belyaev, Head of the Department of International Cooperation of VNIRO, Konstantin Bandurin, Head of the Atlantic Branch of VNIRO, and Vladimir Volkogon, Rector of Kaliningrad State Technical University.

Within the framework of the seminar, a wide range of issues related to scientific observation and inspection of krill, toothfish and craboid fisheries in the CCAMLR Convention zone were considered. The main provisions of the Strategy for the Development of the Russian Federation's activities in Antarctica for the period up to 2030 (Government Decree No. 2143 of August 21, 2020) are considered.

Taking into account the prospects for the resumption and development of domestic krill fishing, attention was paid to the issues of the state of modern fishing and management of krill resources in the Convention area, a practical lesson on the biological analysis of krill was conducted. Within the framework of the round table "Russian Antarctic fisheries and scientific observation in the area of the CCAMLR Convention", current issues of interaction between industry and industry institutions for the organization of an effective system of domestic scientific observation were considered.

Certificates for the right to be a national and international scientific observer on ships participating in Antarctic fisheries in the 2021/22 season in the area of the CCAMLR Convention were received by 18 specialists. 1 specialist received a certificate for the right to inspect vessels fishing in the CCAMLR Convention zone.
