Assessment of the condition of the Nelma and Tugun in the Yenisei River

Scientists of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted monitoring studies of the state of the Nelma and Tugun in the lower reaches of the Yenisei in the Turukhansky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The scientific groups of the Krasnoyarsk branch VNIRO concentrated near the settlements of Bakhta and Mirnoye.

Scientists have been working in the field for more than three weeks. During this time, ichthyological material was collected, the size and age structure of the herds was determined, and hydrobiological samples were selected. In addition, in the research area, scientists assessed the fishing situation on the river and the level of anthropogenic impact on aquatic biological resources.

The Yenisei is one of the longest and deepest rivers in Russia and the world. It passes through all climatic zones of Siberia. The composition of the ichthyofauna is rich and includes several dozen species. Moreover, the greatest diversity is observed in the lower reaches of the river.

Now the collected material is undergoing in-house processing in the laboratories of the Institute. The information obtained will become the basis for the development of a forecast of the total allowable catches of Nelma and Tugun in the Yenisei River.
