VNIRO at the meeting of the Yenisei Scientific and Industrial Council

On October 27, Krasnoyarsk hosted a meeting of the Yenisei Scientific and Commercial Council, chaired by Mikhail Ivanik, Deputy Head of Rosrybolovstvo. Representatives of science, government and fishing organizations participated in the discussion.

The central theme was the steady downward trend in industrial catches: the participants agreed on the need to find out the causes of the dynamics and prepare scientifically sound measures to stabilize the fishery. Specialists of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All—Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) are conducting research on commercial fish stocks in the Yenisei fisheries region - these data help determine the allowable catch volumes and rationally use aquatic biological resources.

Special attention was paid to Norilo‑Pyasinsk Lake and River system: annual expeditions continue under the Settlement Agreement (between the Yenisei Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo, JSC NTEK and VNIRO). Their results will form the basis for recommendations on compensation for damage to fish stocks after the accident at CHPP‑3 in Norilsk in 2020.

The council also discussed the study of the reservoirs of the Arctic zone and the preservation of their unique ecosystems. The scientific data obtained will allow for a more accurate assessment of the state of stocks and more efficient management of the region's fish resources.
