The future of Siberian rivers: specialists of the Tyumen branch of VNIRO are preparing for the start of a new fish farming season

The autumn fish bonification, a key stage of artificial reproduction, has been completed at the scientific and production sites of the Tyumen branch of the SSC RF "All‑Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO). The specialists assessed the physiological condition of the repair and brood herds, conducted control weighings and determined the growth and maturation rates of the fish, as well as their readiness for spawning.

The producers who are to give offspring this year have been switched to a pre-spawning maintenance and feeding regime. Nelma is traditionally the first to mature: it is already sorted by gender and placed in special caviar collection units. Spawning will take place using an ecological method — the fish will spawn independently, as in a natural environment, without human intervention.

At the same time, the Tobolsk fish hatchery (the production division of the branch) prepared the base for the new fish breeding season. The storage pond was drained, cleaned, disinfected and refilled; the water supply system and refrigeration equipment, including the ice maker, were checked. In the incubation workshop, the specialists assembled the devices and completed the necessary inventory.

In the next six months, the hatchery will incubate caviar, and the juveniles grown from it will replenish the natural populations of valuable fish species next year.‑The Irtysh basin. This is how the Tyumen branch of VNIRO contributes to the conservation of the biodiversity of Siberian rivers.
