Scientific observer of the Polar Branch of VNIRO

Alexander Vasiliev, senior engineer of the scientific expedition Department of the Polar Branch of the SSC RF "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), carried out research on the raw material base of pelagic fish fishing on the fishing vessel MK-0378 "Captain Nazin" from February 16 to March 18, 2026.
 
The studies were conducted in open areas of the Northeastern Atlantic at the whiting spawning sites in the area of Porcupine and Rockall cans.
 
The vessel carried out 17 multi-depth trawls, the species composition of the catches was assessed in all of them, and a biological analysis of the catches of 7 trawls was performed. Almost 2.5 thousand fish were measured, and a field nutrition analysis of 350 specimens was performed. fish, 300 samples were taken for age analysis.
 
The materials collected during the voyage and the results obtained will be used to develop forecasts of various timescales, prepare an annual forecast, make recommendations for the rational exploitation of pelagic fish stocks, evaluate the efficiency of using biological resources, and protect the interests of the Russian fishing industry at the international level.
