Science is preparing for the information support of pelagic Putin 2026

Specialists from the Pacific Branch of the SSC RF "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) have begun a new cycle of comprehensive research and exploration work in the waters of the Southern Kuriles and the northwestern Pacific Ocean, and from the first decade of June it is planned to study the situation in the Sea of Japan.

The key goal is to collect up–to-date data for information support of the pelagic putina in 2026. This is necessary to provide fishermen with objective information about promising fishing areas, taking into account migration routes, distribution, quantitative and qualitative assessment of accumulations of feeding Far Eastern sardines (iwasi), mackerel, saury.

Along with the work of scientific vessels of the VNIRO Scientific Research Fleet - Vostok (CCP–Vostok) Center for Collective Use, as part of international scientific and technological cooperation, a TINRO specialist participates in a joint Russian-Japanese voyage to assess modern stocks of commercial pelagic fish (sardines, saury, mackerel) and squid in the north-West parts of the Pacific Ocean. The practice of such expeditions has been resumed this year for the first time in the last 10 years.

The data that will be obtained during the expeditions is necessary for scientific support of the Russian pelagic putina-2026.
