Within the framework of the session "Yenisei — the main river of Siberia: how to preserve it for future generations" Nikita Yablokov presented the report "Preserve and multiply: valuable fish of the Yenisei River and ways of their rational use". In it, he highlighted in detail the results of months of monitoring studies conducted by VNIRO specialists. Special attention was paid to the state of populations of the most valuable representatives of the Yenisei ichthyofauna — sturgeon, salmon and whitefish species. The scientist provided up-to-date data on the abundance, migration patterns and key threats faced by these species in modern conditions.
In addition, the report outlined specific measures to conserve fish resources: proposals to improve the monitoring system, adjust fishing quotas to reflect current population dynamics, and develop artificial reproduction programs. The speaker paid special attention to the need for an integrated approach combining the efforts of scientists, authorities and business representatives for sustainable management of aquatic biological resources.
