Round table in the walls of the Polar branch of VNIRO

On October 30, a round table dedicated to the results of the 57th session of the Joint Russian‑Norwegian Fisheries Commission (RNC) was held at the Polar Branch of the All‑Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).

The event was attended by representatives of the executive bodies of the Murmansk region, territorial administrations of federal authorities, subordinate institutions, fishing organizations and the Association of Shipowners of the fishing fleet.

The main purpose of the meeting was to strengthen partnerships, attract contractors and exchange views on the state of commercial stocks of aquatic biological resources.

The central event of the program was the report by Yuri Kovalev, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Marine Bioresources, "The state of jointly managed reserves in the Barents Sea for 2027." It presents the dynamics of stocks of key species — cod, haddock, black halibut, grouper and capelin. The report included estimates of current stocks, recommended and approved values of the total allowable catch by the RNC, as well as a forecast of stock dynamics and possible catch for the coming years. The participants discussed in detail the results of the last session and the fishing parameters of jointly regulated stocks for 2027.

It should be recalled that the 57th session of the RNC was recently held in person in Istanbul (Turkey) and allowed to resolve a number of disagreements. Following the negotiations, the parties signed a protocol fixing the fishing parameters of jointly regulated stocks for 2027.
