The program covered a wide range of areas: from collecting data on zooplankton, zoobenthos, and periphyton to conducting hydrochemical, meteorological, and geological observations, bathymetry, and analyzing the content of microplastics in the water..
The expedition included junior specialist Fyodor Vasiliev and specialist Alena Kamenchenko from the St. Petersburg branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All‑Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO). They investigated the infection of fish with parasites dangerous to humans — in particular, metacercariae of trematodes from the Opisthorchiidae family and plerocercoids of the broad tapeworm (Dibothriocephalus latus). An important result: these parasites were not found in the expedition area.
In addition, Fyodor Vasiliev gave an informative lecture to the participants about the evolution of trematode life cycles — it significantly broadened the scientific horizons of the young researchers.
The data obtained on the parasitological state of the ichthyofauna will be added to the database of fish diseases and will help monitor the epizootic situation in the water bodies of the Northwestern region..
