ISO session in Beijing: results of the work of the Russian delegation

In June 2026, the 45th plenary session of Section 9 "Microbiology" of the Technical Committee 34 "Food Products" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was held in Beijing (People's Republic of China).
 
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) develops standards and promotes the development of standardization and related activities in the world in order to ensure the international exchange of goods and services, as well as the development of cooperation in intellectual, scientific, technical and economic fields. Currently, ISO includes representatives from 164 countries, including the Russian Federation.
 
The delegate from the Russian Federation to the plenary session of the ISO Committee was Maria Dyachenko, Acting Head of the Department of Technical Regulation and Standardization of the All—Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), Candidate of Technical Sciences, who is an active expert in ISO working groups.
 
The agenda of the 45th session covered a wide range of issues related to the development, revision and validation of international standards for microbiological analysis methods. During the multilateral discussions, the Russian side actively participated in the discussion of draft documents, many of which are of priority importance for ensuring the safety and quality of fish products.:
 
ISO/PWI 6887-3 — "Microbiology of the food chain. Preparation of samples, initial suspension and decimal dilutions for microbiological examination. Part 3. Special rules for the preparation of fish and fish products".
 
ISO/PWI 16140-9 — "Microbiology of the food chain. Validation of methods. Part 9. Protocol for the validation of alternative methods for preformed bacterial toxins and biogenic amines in food products".
 
ISO/preFDIS 11133 — "Microbiology of food, animal feed and water. Preparation, production, storage and performance testing of nutrient media".
 
ISO/TS 17728:2015 — "Microbiology of the food chain. Sampling methods for microbiological analysis of food and feed samples".
 
Following the discussions, the proposals and comments of the Russian delegation were accepted for further work on the texts of the standards.

Participation in the meetings of the sections of the International Technical Committee for Food Standardization ISO/TC34 allows the development of international standards for fish products, taking into account the interests of the Russian Federation.
