Representatives of science and the fisheries industry focused on the main thing — how stocks of key commercial species in Russian waters are changing and what to do about it.
The discussion focused on key issues: which factors most strongly influence the abundance of aquatic biological resources, how to accurately assess their reserves in the face of change, and how to preserve these riches for future generations.
""Planning, organization and provision of research on fish resources of the Russian Far Eastern Seas" by Alexey Baitalyuk, Deputy Director and Head of the Pacific Branch of the SSC RF "All—Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), was an important part of the meeting. He clearly showed that changes in the structure of the Ichthyocene and new trends in the fishing industry require a redesign of the scientific research scheme itself.
Experts see a promising solution as a combination of proven expedition methods with the development of a network of coastal research stations. This approach will allow us to collect more complete data, more reliably estimate stocks and more accurately predict their dynamics, which means making informed decisions for the sustainable development of the industry.
