The researchers conducted a whole range of field studies: they performed control catches to assess the number, species composition and condition of fish populations, and also took a variety of samples — hydrobiological, hydrological and hydrochemical samples of water and sediments. All materials have already been transferred to qualified specialists: they will be thoroughly analyzed in the laboratory to obtain data on the quality of the aquatic environment and the state of the food supply.
Such regular expeditions play a key role in studying the dynamics of the ecosystem of the Don River. The information collected will not only help develop recommendations for the conservation of local biodiversity, but will also form the basis for long—term forecasts, which means it will contribute to the sustainable development of fisheries in the region.
