The scientists collected hydrobiological and hydrochemical samples at the monitoring sections, paying special attention to the key links of the food chain — zooplankton, phytoplankton and zoobenthos. At the same time, the chemical composition of water and sediments was analyzed in order to comprehensively assess the state of the ecosystem.
Special attention was paid to the lower zone of the Volgograd reservoir: here, experts studied the parameters important for calculating the permissible release volumes of juvenile aquatic organisms, including the feed productivity of the reservoir, the biological characteristics of the inhabitants and the intensity of fishing.
To assess the ichthyofauna, fishing nets and a juvenile seine were used: the catches were measured, samples were taken to determine the age, and samples of juvenile fish were sent to the laboratory. Currently, all the collected materials are undergoing in-house processing in the branch's laboratories.
