Fishing took place on the shore of Veselaya Bay, in one of the popular recreation areas of residents of the city of Magadan. Initially, it was planned to hold competitions in the area of Cape Nyuklya, near the mouth of the Ola River. However, a sudden change in the weather and a strong sea surge on the Olsky coast forced the judging team to promptly make a decision to change the venue of the competition.
Both experienced anglers and beginners participated in the competition, and the Sea of Okhotsk did not deprive both participants and fans of prey and impressions. The choice of fishing spot did not disappoint. Two types of flounders pecked perfectly for 2 hours: starfish (Platichthys stellatus) and yellowfin (Limanda aspera).
Philip Burlak, the head of the marine commercial fish group, won by a significant margin from the other participants. The ichthyologist's "professional" skills, fishing experience and luck brought excellent results – the total weight of his catch was 4.5 kg (8 specimens of flounder). The second place with a good result of 2.67 kg (3 copies) went to Elena Kashchenko, a leading specialist at the laboratory of marine fish, coastal Bioresources and fishery monitoring. The third place was awarded to Sergey Egorov, Head of the Logistics Department. His result is 2 copies. flounders with a total weight of 1.58 kg. Three more competitors (Yulia Shcherbakova, Anna Korshukova and Dmitry Sutyagin) competed with the winners, but with slightly smaller catches.
In general, despite the cool, windy weather, the competition was held in a friendly atmosphere and a good mood among the participants. Veselaya Bay lived up to its name, the smiles did not leave the faces of the participants, and the support of the fans and a fair fight — that's what really warmed the branch's specialists that day.
