Scientists will conduct visual observations according to the methodology of the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC): record the species and numerical composition of animals, their spatial distribution, take photographs and mark key biological parameters.
The work is carried out within the framework of the branch's program for the study of pinnipeds and cetaceans in 2026, the state monitoring plan for aquatic biological resources, as well as the Russian‑Japanese program for scientific and technical cooperation in the field of fisheries. Annual joint research has already allowed us to collect important data on the abundance, behavior and photo identification of cetaceans in the Sea of Okhotsk.
