VNIRO scientists took part in the 38th session of the Russian-Japanese Mixed Commission on Fisheries

In the period from April 11 to April 25, 2022, the 38th session of the Russian-Japanese Mixed Fisheries Commission was held. The session was attended by representatives of Rosrybolovstvo and VNIRO specialists.
During the 38th session of the DUCKWEED, issues related to salmon stocks in the northwestern Pacific Ocean were discussed.

It was noted that at present, in general, the stocks of Russian Pacific salmon herds are in good condition. The stocks of pink salmon of eastern Sakhalin in 2021 increased compared to the previous year. The stocks of pink salmon of the eastern and western coasts of Kamchatka in 2021 remained at a high level. At the same time, the number of pink salmon of the Kuril Islands in 2021 decreased significantly compared to 2019. The state of the stocks of Sakhalin chum salmon, Iturup, thanks to artificial reproduction, remains stable. Kamchatka's coho reserves are relatively high relative to the average level. There is a long-term ban on fishing sims.

Russian and Japanese scientists exchanged information on mutual cooperation in the field of fisheries in 2021. The Parties noted that the Program of Scientific and Technical Cooperation for 2021 envisaged by the 37th session was successfully implemented.

In addition, scientists have developed proposals for conducting scientific research necessary for the conservation, reproduction, optimal use and management of salmon stocks, and included them in the Program of scientific and Technical cooperation between Russia and Japan in the field of fisheries for 2022.

During the discussion of these issues, the Parties confirmed the importance and necessity of continuing studies of the marine life of salmon, taking into account the provisions of the Convention on the Conservation of Anadromous Species in the North Pacific of 1992.
